Electromagnets and Magnetism in the real world

States of Matter

In this link you can learn a lot about the states of matter, take quizes, play games, and study for the exam. Enjoy!

States of matter

Chemical Changes

Science Unit 4 is pretty difficult. (Don't you think?) If you want to make sure you understand everything you're learning in class, first, re-read the lesson in the book and then visit these websites:

This is a great video; you can review the definitions of physical and chemical changes and afterwards you can take a quiz to test your knowledge. (Be careful, it's designed for American children so you may have to watch two or three times). In this game you have to choose whether the video is showing a physical or a chemical change. Leave a comment with your score! In this activity, you review if changes are reversible or irreversible. Did you answer the questions correctly?

Extra: If you didn't do well on the last test and more practice, check out this video about Solids, Liquids, and Gases or watch this one about Changing States of Matter

Australia Day

Next week we will be celebrating Australia Day! Woohoo!!! In Australia, January 26th is a very special day that celebrates the arrival of some of the first British ships to the island. February 7th is known as New Zealand day, so we will combine the both of them in a day-long celebration next week!!!!

We are excited to eat some Australian food, play some traditional games, sing "Waltzing Matilda", as well as share what we have been researching about Australia with the rest of our classmates!

Check out the link to the song to practice the lyrics at home. This is the video version of Waltzing Matilda

How to Make a Boomerang

This video will show you how to make an origami boomerang! It is really cool, but you have to make sure to be careful and do a good job with it!

The Rainbow Serpent

The aborigines in Australia had many different stories and traditions. One of the most important stories was about how all things were created and made. This was the story of the Rainbow Serpent. The Rainbow Serpent was a snake who formed all of the landscapes of Australia. He also turned some of the people into animals or plants, which means that the plants and animals were now "brothers" with the people.

Here is a video about the story.

Try to remember as much as you can so that along the way you can point out and identify the different trees. Here is a great website in Spanish to help you learn even more about Casa de Campo!
