Australian Day Review

Many of the students and teachers had a fun Australian Day last Friday! In the morning we had 5 different stations: cooking Australian food, playing Australian games, making a hat, an Australian game show, and also on-line activities. The highlight of the afternoon was Rugby games with our PE teacher Mario. Overall it was a fun day, and more importantly I think we all learned a lot about Australia! Maybe we can take a summer holiday there soon... :)

Above you can see the hats we made!
Above the children are making fairy bread and below Adam is hosting the game show.

The Rainbow Serpent

The aborigines in Australia had many different stories and traditions. One of the most important stories was about how all things were created and made. This was the story of the Rainbow Serpent. The Rainbow Serpent was a snake who formed all of the landscapes of Australia. He also turned some of the people into animals or plants, which means that the plants and animals were now "brothers" with the people.

Here is a video about the story.

Australia Day

Next week we will be celebrating Australian Day! Woohoo!!! In Australia, January 26 is a very special day to celebrate the arrival of some of the first British ships. February 7th is known as New Zealand day, so we will combine the both of them in a day-long celebration next Friday!!!!

We are excited to eat some Australian food, play some traditional games, sing "Waltzing Matilda", as well as share with our classmates what we have been researching about Australia!

Check out the link to the song to practice the lyrics at home.... This is another version of the song
